Starting this year the Alberta Bicycle Association (ABA) will be taking on the role of win tracker. They have everyone's wins strating from 2007 and on. Anyone caught riding at an event out of class (for example you have registered as a Novice Male and you already have 10 or more wins) will face a possible season long suspension. Be aware of your win count! The 2008 assigned plate numbers have been released You can see the form here. Note that the number you run is shaded grey as many riders earned multiple numbers. You must run your highest earned number starting with W, then N, then C, then AB, then PIf your highest ranking is a "P" number use the number only (i.e. 4 and not P4) If you have no earned number use the last three digits from your UCI code on your 2008 license. For example: If your UCI code is CAN19990134, your number is 134 Track redesign, Trophy race and Open house Quite a few members came out for our second trophy race of the year to find the track quite a bit different from the one they raced on last week. The new first step-up to the bigger first corner and completely redesigned rhythm section had riders off guard. It didn't take long for everyone to start getting used to the changes and it was a great night of racing. The track was a bit rough as it's fresh construction but all the riding started to smooth things out a bit.We also held our open house and a number of riders from barely old enough to ride to old enough to know better got out there. All in all it was a great night and thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the night and track rebuild a success We hope that the redesign will help start to develop the skills required to compete a higher levels found at other tracks across the province, country and world. There may still be a little "tweaking" here and there, but we believe we're moving in the right direction Lethbridge Provincial #1 - April 8th, 2007 Check out the video Don Frankish made2007 Worlds application update The deadline date for 2007 Worlds application submission has been extended to June 4th. As a result, the CCA will not have a grace period to fill the spots of athletes who have failed to register by the deadline date. So far, they have received 80 registrations out of an anticipated 300 registrations. If those riders in the Top 32 have failed to return their forms by the deadline date, the next riders down the list will be able to fill their spots. Please inform any riders in your clubs ranked #33 to #45 to send in their application forms now (if they plan to attend). The CCA can process those application forms right away once the deadline date has passed for the original Top 32. If they do receive all of the forms from the Top 32 by June 4th, they will simply not process any of the registrations from riders ranked below #32. If anyone riders from your club are not ranked on the 2006 list and have submitted a Special Request to attend the Worlds, they do not need to submit an application form at this time. If they are accepted into Worlds, the CCA will handle coordinating the registration process with them. Be sure to check the CCA BMX World Challenge Team page for up-to-date information regarding eligibility, entry forms, registered riders, contact info, etc.Our outdoor season is quickly approaching and we are excited to get riding. We want everyone to be able to jump onto the track the day it opens; so that means registrations are due. Registration fees for Lethbridge BMX 2007 season will be $60. Please remember you are required to hold a 2007 ABA license which costs $70 to $85 (depending on age) to be insured to ride any track. Registration will be held at:
If you are unable to attend and of these dates please come by the
track during scheduled times and someone will be able to assist
you. You can find the schedule on our website in the
SCHEDULES section. I hope to see you
all at Lethbridge Indoor Provincial week-end April 6, 7 and 8. If
you have any questions please contact Adonus Williams at 320-0452

Qualified riders for the 2007 Worlds The CCA is going to start publishing updated rider lists monthly. The top 32 nationally ranked riders are eligible to attend the 2007 World Championships in Victoria. As riders inform the CCA they are declining their spots, other riders will fill the vacated spots. The latest list can be seen on the CCA website by clicking here
The ABA will have the 2007 UCI license registration available online starting Monday December 11th. This is the same license you purchase every year to race in Alberta (in addition to the local club fees). If you're going to race the indoor track after December 31st you'll need to have this license. Please be aware that even though you can register and pay online you still need to mail a signed original of the insurance waiver portion (download from ABA website) before they'll even process your license. Please welcome your newly elected Executive for fiscal 2007:
If you plan on attending the World's next year in Victoria and don't already have a current World(W) or National(N) top 8 plate, then the rankings are next in importance. Because Canada is the host country in 2007 we are allowed to take 32 riders per age class (it's 16 riders for the rest of the world). Remember, at this level of racing there are no ability classes (Novice, Intermediate, Expert) only age classes. There is an amateur (Challenge class) and professional (Championship class) distinction though. The Championship class will NOT be taking 32 riders and for this aticle we will concentrate on the Challenge class. So, if you raced the World's in Brazil this year and earned a top 8 "W" plate, congrats...you're in. Likewise, if you raced this years Canadian Championships in Abbotsford and earned a top 8 "N" plate, congrats...you're in. If you don't have either of those it gets tricky. Throughout the season there were several races that earned CCA National "ranking" points (see Schedules). These points will be used to round out the top 32 riders per class. If, for example, your age group had 2 "W" ranked and 4 "N" ranked riders then the remaining 26 spots would be filled by the next top 26 ranked riders. The actual CCA documents explaining the points earned and the ranking race calendar can be seen on the Schedules page. The rankings to date can be seen on the CCA website by clicking here... 2006 CCA Canadian Championships August 26-27, 2006 - Abbotsford, BC The National Championship will be hosted by Abbotsford, BC August 26th – 27th. For the first time in Canada, Junior and Elite athletes will compete following the Olympic racing format.Specific information about the race is available by clicking here 2006 CCA National Ranking System Mar 16, 2006 New for 2006 is the CCA National BMX Ranking System. Over 18 BMX events will count on the 2006 BMX National Ranking. 10 Inter-provincial races, four Provincial Championships, one National Bronze, two National Silver and one National Championship have been registered with CCA in the 7 available classes of events. The National Ranking will be maintained from January 1st to September 31st. As mentioned in the 2007 World Championships qualification criteria from March 2, the National Ranking will be used as the 3rd level of qualifications: "In order to be eligible for the worlds athletes must have a 2006 world championship or national championship plate from the 2006 season (W or N plate), or be ranked in the top 32 of the 2006 CCA National BMX Ranking." To read the details of how the ranking system works and see what races qualify, go to our Schedules page and click the link or go to the CCA Website 2006 and 2007 BMX World Championships qualifications Mar 2, 2006 Athletes wishing to compete in the Challenge category at the 2006 World Championships:Canada has the right to enter up to 16 athletes per class in the challenge categories. Athletes must apply to the CCA no later than May 15, 2006. In order to be eligible for the worlds athletes must have a world championship, national championship or eastern or western national ranking plate from the 2005 season (W, N or C plate). If more than 16 athletes apply, they will be given priority in the following order: W 1-8, N 1-8, C 1-8. In the event of a tie, the tiebreaker will be the 2005 National Championship results. Athletes wishing to compete in the Challenge category at the 2007 World Championships:As host country, Canada will have the right to enter up to 32 athletes per class in the challenge categories. Athletes must apply to the CCA no later than May 15, 2007. In order to be eligible for the worlds athletes must have a 2006 world championship or national championship plate from the 2006 season (W or N plate), or be ranked in the top 32 of the 2006 CCA National BMX Ranking. Donate your Recyclables Feb 6, 2006 Lethbridge BMX has set up an agreement with the Lethbridge Rehabilitation Society. Return your bottles, cans and juice boxes to the depot and tell them "It's for Lethbridge BMX" and they will donate your proceeds to our club. Anyone can do it, tell your friends and family. Feb 6, 2006 You MUST have your 2006 ABA license to race in Morley March 10-12th, 2006. You can find the page 1 of the form here and page 2 here (you need both pages completed). You can register and pay the ABA portion online here if you prefer. If you pay online you still need to complete the form, have it signed by our track President and then mail, fax or e-mail it to the ABA office. If you choose to pay online note that it is for the ABA portion of your license only and not the local club fees which are extra. The online payment option is done through Karelo.com and requires you to create a login name and password. This name can then be used indefinitely for any online race registrations that use Karelo. Typically, most Provincial and National Races have the online pre-payment option.
Jan 18, 2006 The latest version of the UCI Rulebook (BMX section XI .B.1.c) Clothing and Safety Equipment...states: "Long pants made of tear-resistant material whose legs must be tight fitting at the ankles. Short pants made of tear-resistant material are permitted if used together with knee and skin protection with a rigid surface." The CCA has not amended their rulebook to match yet, but one would assume they probably will. Other changes of note are: New classes:
UCI World Championship qualifications:
The rule book can be viewed in it's entirety on the UCI website. Remember the CCA (Canada's governing body) has not yet made their rulebook for 2006 available, they don't always follow the UCI rulebook exactly. In the case of the UCI World Championship qualifications, however, that would be non-negotiable

here Well, they were delayed a day, but Airdrie pulled it off and the Canadian Championships were everything you could have hoped for. A ton of great racing, great weather (finally!) and outstanding organization and effort by Airdrie BMX and the volunteers. A huge thanks to those that worked tirelessly around the clock to keep the track in racing shape, you guys are to be envied for your dedication.
Several Lethbridge riders were in attendance for the championships and we did great! The results will be posted soon but I can tell you Lethbridge has it's share of Canadian National Top 8 ranked riders now. Congrats you guys and girls!

Bring A Buddy Contest The rider that signs up the most new members wins a helmet from Bert and Macs a $50.00 gift certificate from Ascent Cycle and a hoodie from Boarderline. Also, for each new member a rider signs up his/her name goes into the draw for another cool hoodie from Boarderline. For any fundraiser that all of the club is able to participate in, 30% of funds raised are then divided by how ever many volunteers there are. The credits can be then be used for registration fees or race fees. They cannot be used at our concession. For example if we do a bottle drive and earn $1000, then $300 of that is divided between the total number of volunteers (parents included). Bindy Clark April 11, 2005A HUGE thanks to all the volunteers that made it out to help with the track. We have to commend all these volunteers that have given up countless hours to rebuild our track!! Some have been there every weekend for the past three weeks and likely the next three. Please come out and support our club, even if you can only help out for an hour or two, MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK. Volunteers needed Saturday and Sunday, April 16th and 17th, don't forget about pre-registration on the 17th. 2005 BMX Provincial Team clarification The Alberta Cycling Association website states that the team selection will during the Morley Provincial on March 26th. It should read March 27th. The document can be seen here or at the ABA Website here (documents have now been corrected) 2005 Official Number Plate Specifications The Alberta Cycling Association has supplied us with the criteria for 2005 Number plates. The rules are as follows : (excerpts... not an official ABA document) 1. The ABA requires that the UCI plate regulations be followed. (See page 35 of the UCI rulebook here... ) If you have a plate other than issued by the ABA it must measure 20-25 cm high, 25-30 cm in width. The letters/numbers must be 8cm high and have lines with widths of at least 10mm. The plate must be free of markings, stickers and any other impediments to the legibility for the duration of the competition2. Whether a rider uses the new plates that the ABA has purchased or not, is entirely up to them, so long as the approximate size and color codes specified in the regulations are followed. The colors are:
For the purposes of the first provincial in Morley, if it is truly impossible for a rider to have the correct color combination, we will simply issue a warning. After this, however, the correct color plates will be necessary. Also, if anyone has a CCA plate from last year with the correct number on it, they can use that too. 3. The numbers that should be put on the plates are those which the ABA has determined. Basically, the ABA tells each rider what number to use when they send the license. 4. Black electrical tape is fine (for numbers/letters), so long as they are readable. The ABA hope to send out numbers within the next month or so, but they are unsure whether they'll have them in time for Morley. As a note, some kind of white tape can be used for those riders with plates requiring white numbers. 5. The ABA will be selling the plates at the Morley Provincial on March 27th 2005 Alberta BMX Team The Alberta Cycling Association has announced the selection criteria for the 2005 Provincial BMX Team. Winter Alberta Cycling Coaching Program Darren Williams January 5, 2005Glen Edwards, Athletic Development Director for Alberta BMX and Alberta Cycling has put together a winter coaching program at the Morley indoor track. Coaching will take place from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Sundays starting January 16th and continuing through until April 9th. There is a cost involved for the program as follows:
This program is designed for intermediate and expert riders as well as coaches. It is not geared towards novice or beginner riders and as such Alberta BMX requests that only advanced riders attend these clinics. The program will cover all aspects of riding including proper diet and physical training programs. Interested in a Bus to Morley? Darren Williams January 3, 2005Anyone who is interested in getting together and renting a bus to make a day trip for some winter indoor racing in Morley can e-mail us here. Costs would be dependent on the number of interested riders. If the interest is there we may pursue it further. New Race Committee Proposed at Executive Meeting Darren Williams January 3, 2005The Lethbridge BMX Association Executive meeting held January 3, 2005 voted to form a "Race Committee" that would be in charge of the 5 Saturday races this coming season as well as the "Hurricane Alley Challenge" race in summer 2005. This would take some of the burden off the executive and be a chance for other parents or riders to get involved. We are looking for a volunteer to chair the committee. This Chairperson would be in charge of forming the members of the committee and would need to attend the monthly executive meetings to report. If you are interested you can e-mail us here. CCA to use Abbotsford Indoor for BMX development team selection Bindy Clark December 20, 2004(From CCA Website) -- Canadian Cycling Association staff will be on hand at the Abbotsford Indoor BMX races on February 12 and 13, 2005, to select between six and 10 riders for a development project in the spring. The team, which will consist of Elite and Junior men and women, will travel to two UCI ranking events: the NBL Easter Classic National in Orlando, Florida, on March 26, and the NBL Gator National in Tampa, Florida, on April 2. The week between the events will be spent training in Florida. Travel and accommodation costs will be covered by the CCA. This project has a two-fold objective. First, it will be a chance for some riders who might not otherwise have the opportunity to get a taste of the kind of UCI racing we will need to excel at in order to qualify for the Olympics. Second, it will give us a chance to see how we stack up against the competition in North America. The final selection criteria for the team will be announced in January once the team size has been finalized. Carded BMX athletes will be automatically invited to the team and the remainder of the spots will be picked based on the results in Abbotsford. Please note that development team selection has no bearing on selection to the world championships.
